A Guide to 15 Activities for a Perfect Ubud Experience

Having a Balinese blood gives me the advantages of visiting Bali so often since I was a kid. I could say there is no place in Bali that I haven’t visited. Now I am sitting in the airport waiting for my flight back to Jakarta while laughing to myself because this article is going to be my first tips and trick articles about my homeland Bali. It suddenly inspired me as recently my foreigner friends came to Bali and asked me to accompany and show the beauty of Bali from the local sight to them. That’s the moment I thought to make an article about Bali starting from Ubud since this is my favorite area in Bali.

1. TRANSPORT FROM AIRPORT TO UBUD
Ubud could be reached for approximately 2 hours from Ngurah Rai International Airport by car. When you arrive in Ngurah Rai International Airport,  you’ll find so many guys asking you for taxi service, one thing you should know is they are not official taxis of the airport, those people are trying their lucks if there is any tourist in the airport will going to use their services. Meanwhile, there is also official airport taxi in the counter  :
- Official Airport Taxi = RP. 450.000 (Ngurah Rai Airport to Ubud)
This is an official taxi owned by Airport Management, they already have the price list instead of using the meter.
- Private Car Taxi = Rp. 250.000 – Rp. 300.000 (Ngurah Rai Airport to Ubud)
These cars are private own, They don’t use the meter and don’t have exact rate. So, you would be free to ask for bargain. Meanwhile, my suggestion price is not more than Rp. 300.000. Capacity of one car not more than 4 people as you have to spare for luggage space also.

2. ACCOMODATION IN UBUD
I highly recommend staying in central of ubud as everything would be walking distance. Central Ubud is very small with cafes, restaurants and shops surrounding. So, if you don’t have a plan to hire a transportation, this option would be fit for you.
photo via : http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/Puji-Hostel/Ubud/101082
When you’re looking for the accommodations, make sure the location would be around these areas : Monkey Forest, Ubud Palace, Jalan Bisma, Jalan Hanoman, Jalan Dewi Sita, Ubud Market. Moreover, I have some Accomodation List which probably could be counted as your consideration. Hostel rates are around 100k - 130k/bed : In Da Lodge Hostel, Puji Hostel, Onion Collective, Kememai Hostel

3. EXPLORE UBUD BY SCOOTER OR CAR
Here I would like to give you 2 options exploring Ubud.
- Rent a scooter
I highly recommend to rent a scooter since Ubud street is so small and busy. Rent scooter cost 60k/24 hours including the helmet. And also we can stop and park right in front of the places.

- Rent a car
If you go with a group or nobody on your group can ride a scooter, you can choose this option. Rent a car cost around 600k– 750k/24 hours including driver and petrol, capacity max 5 people.
The thing why I recommend hire a scooter is finding a parking space for car very not easy ! There’s only one parking park for car and bus and it’s far from the central Ubud which means you need to walk, or ask the drivers to drop you off in place and pick you up afterwards.

4. CULTURAL EXPERIENCE IN GUNUNG KAWI TEMPLE
Gunung Kawi Temple is one of the oldest temple built in 11th century. Gunung Kawi Temple consists of 10 rock-cut candi (shrines) – memorials cut out of the rock face in imitation of actual statues. You need to go down for 315 steps and up back for 315 steps. On the way along the steps you’ll be spoiled by a very nice greenery of rice fields and waterfall.

5. BALINESE SHOWER IN TIRTA EMPUL HOLY WATER TEMPLE
Some of my foreigner friends said that showering in Tirta Empul Water Temple is their best experience of Ubud. Only 1 km away from Gunung Kawi Temple, This place is famous by its holy spring water where Balinese Hindu go to ritual purification. The temple pond has a spring which gives out the fresh water.

Tegalalang Rice Terrace in Ubud is famous for its beautiful scenes of rice paddies involving the subak (traditional Balinese irrigation system). This place is like a must-visit-place in Ubud.

I highly recommend you to depart from Ubud maximum at 08.00 am so you can reach the place within 08.30 and finish before mid day as Tourists usually come at 11.00 am. Moreover, you still could get the morning vibes when coming in the morning.

7. PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR IN UBUD COUNTRYSIDE
Apart from the touristy Tegalalang Ricefields, I’ve found a beautiful ricefields in Tampak Siring Area. Well it doesn’t has a terrace like Tegalalang has. but the view here is so magnificent. Especially, for Photography Enthusiasts, the landscape is totally awesome.
It took around 50 minutes from Ubud Central, but I am not sure I can go to this place by myself again or not since I departed in early morning aroun 04.00 am and I slept in the car during the journey. But anyone interested about this tour, you can get it by click this link. You’ll also be accompanied by the expert photographer on the trip.

9. GREENERY PATH  IN CAMPUHAN HILLS RIDGE WALK
Well, this place is not a tourist destination kind of place. Campuhan ridge walk usually used by people for jogging. But this becomes my top list of must do walks when in Ubud because of its beautiful green walk which is filled with greenery and hills. Best time to come to this place is as early as you can between 06.00 – 07.30 am as the hot gets quickly ! Watch out, you need to pass a little steep track for 15 minutes to reach the hills, bring along your water J
Location : Ubud Central (From Ubud traditional market on the corner of Jl monkey forest and jl raya ubud, head towards the bridge. Just before the bridge you’ll see sign to the Warwick IBAH villa, turn into that area. Don’t go inside the villa, there will be a path going down next to the entrance of the villa. Then you’ll see a sign saying “Going to the Hill”.Then you’ll see two paths to cross the river, choose the stairs, follow the path and go right up the stairs, and then just follow the main path to reach the hills.
Distance : 15 minute walking distance, 5 minutes by scooter
Entrance Fee : -

10. TIBUMANA WATERFALL
Apart from the most touristy Tegenungan waterfall, Tibumana Waterfall is highly recommended for those who wanting to escape from the tourists and enjoy the peace and tranquility. When I came here there was only 2 people and 3 of us who visited this waterfall. You’ll pass some Balinese regency and forest on the way to Tibumana Waterfall.
Location : Bangli
Distance : 40 minutes by scooter
Entrance Fee : 10.000

11. ROAD TRIP TO MOUNT BATUR VOLCANO
Located in the north area of Bali, Ubud is very close to the volcano Mount Batur. In one and half hour drive you already can escape from the heat weather of Ubud into the windy weather of highland area. Along the way from Ubud, we’ll pass wooden and craft shop both on the right and left side.
The view of Agung Volcano and Batur Volcano would accompany us during the trip. Make a visit to hot spring in the foot mount batur and lunch with view. Read more about 5 Activities Offer The Best Views of Mount Batur Volcano in Bali by click the link.

12. SOUVENIRS SHOP IN UBUD MARKET AND SUKAWATI MARKET
Ubud is very well known by its craft especially wooden things and artsy stuffs. In central ubud, you can find these things in Ubud Traditional Market. But as my experience, they really sell with high price since the location is pretty touristy.
But since the location is really close and walking distance, it’s fair if you want to shop only some souvenirs. Otherwise, if you are planning to shop more, I recommend you to shop at Sukawati Traditional market. This one is bigger and has various collections, also you can still bargain with half price from stuffs that sold in Ubud traditional Market. These 5 Activities Offer The Best Views of Mount Batur Volcano in Bali

I still remember when my Thai friend asked me “Kadek, which part of Bali do you like the most ?” Without hesitation i said, I love Batur Volcano since this area offer the different angle of Bali with the highland windy breeze and beautiful view along the way. Some people might only know that Bali is popular by its beach life with a lot of surfers coming every year looking for the good waves. But forget about those hustle bustle South Bali area, let’s take a look to what north Bali can offer.
1.   SUNRISE TREKKING IN MOUNT BATUR
All the travel agents claim that sunrise in the top of Batur Volcano is the best sunrise in Bali. With only 2 hours walking distance from the base camp to the peak, this outdoor activity becoming popular among travelers.
From my honest opinion, I don’t resist that sunrise in the top of Batur volcano is the best sunrise in Bali I’ve been through, in the position I never try the highest one Mount Agung volcano. But, comparing with the time spent which is 6 hours apart, Batur volcano win in every angle.
It needs 2 hours driving from Seminyak, Kuta, and Canggu area to reach the base camp, and 1 hour driving from Ubud.
People usually depart at midnight and start trekking at 03.00 am with approximately arrive at 05.30-06.00 am. The sunrise itself start at 06.00 am. There would be a local little shop selling a glass of coffee and hot tea at the peak. I highly recommend to take different track for going back down as you’ll see different angle of the Batur Volcano.
Price : Rp. 250.000 – Rp. 300.000 (foreigner), Rp 10.000 (local)
So many travel agents provide the tour package including the breakfast at the peak. Those prices are that I found mostly at some travel agents.

2.   ROAD TRIP TO HIGHLAND AREA OF MOUNT BATUR
For travelers who don’t like the outdoor activity, enjoying the Batur volcano view by taking the road trip could be an option. It’s better if you can stay in Ubud, so you just need 1 hour drive to reach the highland area. The weather at the foot of Batur volcano would be totally different, it’s so windy and fresh. You might open your window seat to feel the breeze.
How To get There : You can go with scooter and car. Hire a scooter cost 60.000/24 hrs and car around 650.000-750.000 including driver and petrol.
Price : 30.000/person entrance fee

3.   TOYA DEVASYA INFINITY HOT SPRING POND OVER BATUR LAKE
The best time to come here is around 09.00 – 11.00 am as the sky is still blue and the fog has not go down yet. They have 2 standard pools and one infinity hot spring pond in the side of Mount Batur Volcano.
How To get There : You can go with scooter and car. Hire a scooter cost 60.000/24 hrs and car around 650.000-750.000 including driver and petrol. Drive toward the Lake Batur, and follow the sign heading to Toya Devasya Hot spring.
Price : 75.000/person (local), 150.000/person (foreigner)

4.   LUNCH WITH MOUNT BATUR VIEW
After relaxing in the hot spring, get the late lunch with Batur volcano view. There are so many restaurants in the main road of this area. I just randomly chose one restaurant which that time no one was there. Surprisingly, for me, they have such a perfect Mount Batur view and the foods are also good. The name of restaurant is Warung Baling – Baling. They sell Indonesian food.
Price : Rp 50.000 – 100.000/person

5.   VISITING TRUNYAN CEMETERY
Photo via historyntourism.blogspot.com
This could be my one of the best cultural experience. In a remote bay on the shores of Lake Batur lays the isolated ancient of Bali Aga Village. People of Bali Aga Village renowned for its unique mortuarial rites where body are not buried but left to rot out open. The island where those corpses laid located separately with the main land of people. Trunyan itself is the name of the tree which is believed has the good smell to cover the smell of dead. What you will see there are a pile of skulls in the root of the trees.
Price : Boat cost around Rp.500.000-700.000/boat (with capacity around 10 people)

The Harmony Between Beautiful Sunrise in Sanur and Traditional Balinese Seriska Villa Bali

$

Some people might almost forget about Sanur, but for me Sanur beach still wins my heart for its beautiful sunrise. Kuta, Seminyak, or Canggu might be well known for its beautiful sunset. But for Sunrise, Sanur beach is still being a diva for all the landscape photographers.
Sanur offer a very magnificent scenery of the beach, local people activity and Mountain view as the background. Sunrise in Sanur start around 06.00 am. One thing that really makes it special is the view of fisherman in a small wooden boat who just come back in the ocean.
As the first beach destination of Bali, Sanur now becomes more popular for family vacation. While having a breakfast in Nasi Ayam Men Weti, the one who believed as the BEST BALINESE NASI CAMPUR in Bali, I took a look at distance seeing kids and their parents started to come to the beach.
After enjoying the sunrise, I walked back to Seriska Villa Sanur, the place where I stayed for 3 days 2 night in Sanur. It was just such an early morning I started the day, then I laid down my body in the very comfort living room area with a big flat screen TV. Having my lazy Sunday off in the side of the pool then was my only to do list that day.
The villa is very spacious with 3 main bedrooms and 1 kids bedroom. All the bedrooms have connecting doors and direct access to the pool. The gazebo in the middle of the pool make it even perfect to chill out.
I really love the concept of public space where Pantry, dining room and living room are located in the same area without partition. The Family group usually tend to choose staying in villa rather than in hotel in order to get more privacy and get closer to each other
For me, when you are in Bali, there is no reason to not enjoying the traditional Balinese ambience which becomes one of tourists attraction. The first time i stepped into the main gate, I could absolutely felt the real traditional Balinese architecture vibes. All the materials are dominantly decoration by wall and wood. The roof and ceiling interior also adopt the Balinese traditional house shape and material.

Villa Seriska 1 has the great location and close to all local shop. Just 10 steps away of the villa, you can easily find so many restaurants, bars and local shops. Anyone who want to have holiday with family and friends, Villa Seriska Sanur is the one i would like to recommend :)

Villa Seriska 1 Sanur, Bali
Danau Tamblingan, Sanur, Denpasar Sel, Kota Denpasar, Bali 80228

4 Beautiful Views of Nusa Penida You Won't Believe are in Bali

$

I just got back from my second time visit Nusa penida, Bali. Not all of tourists know that Bali has 3 separate islands. Located 45 minutes by boat from Sanur Beach, Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan usually have been choosen by travelers to escape from the busy South Bali Area. All of these three islands are separated by the ocean and we have to take the boat to reach each island, except for Nusa Lembogan and Nusa Ceningan, since there is a bridge provided between both of them. As the biggest island, Nusa Penida has so many beautiful places to explore. On my second visit in Nusa Penida, I got accompanied by my Friend, Duwi, he’s the local and Nusa Penida born. I could say he is such an expert showing me the best spots to proof the beautiful views of Nusa penida.

1. Kelingking Beach
The first breathtaking view is Kelingking Beach. The view of  the green hills combining with The blue ocean water, and white sand beach could be seen from above. The picture looks like we were taking a picture with the drone camera.
From the parking lot we have to walk down for 100 meter to see this view. You can absolutely go to the beach as the beach looks so tempting ! But you have to make sure you are not afraid of height. The track is steep, slippery and only 50 cm width. So be careful !

2. Pasih Uug
As known as the broken beach, what makes this place special is a hole in the middle of the cliff. The water here looks so clear. Pasih Uug is the nearest one you can reach from the pier.

3. Angel Billabong
Right after Pasih Uug, walking to the right side around 10 minutes you will see a beautiful natural lagoon named Angels Billabong. You can go down to reach the lagoon but the cliffs contained of karst stone, you have to go down slowly.

4. Atuh Beach
The next of my favorite is Atuh Beach. The view looks like Wayag, Raja Ampat with the single stone exists in the middle of the ocean. Or some of people said it’s quite similar like Nugget Point, Australia. Atuh beach is the furthest location, and the road to get here is so bad.
Make sure you come at mid  day to get the best light. The track to reach the view is short but steep. Prepare your stamina as you will trekking on the heat.

How To Get There
1.    From Bali you have to go to Sanur Beach, If you are staying in Kuta, Seminyak, you’d better take the uber/grab car. It will cost around Rp. 100.000 for one way – 50 minutes
2.    Buy the boat ticket for two ways Rp 150.000 (local tourist), Rp 300.000 (foreigner tourist) – 45 minutes
3.    Boat Schedule depart from Sanur to Nusa Penida at 08.30 am and leave from Nusa penida for Sanur at 03.30 pm.
4.    Rent a motorbike to explore the island – 50.000-60.000/24 hrs. Motorbike rent is easy to find, once you arrive at the pier, there will be so many people ask you for motobike rent. Do bargain as cheap as you can ! :)

Tips And Trick
1.    Road sign is not available for the destination, it’s quite tricky if this is your first time in Nusa Penida.
2.    Local people are mostly cannot speak English, and so clueless when I asked the way to reach Pasih Uug/Angels Billabong
3.    Internet Connection is edge, I even cannot use google maps properly.
4.    The heat will absolutely burn your skin, prepare your sunblock
5.    You absolutely can go one day trip, but if you are going by yourself, it will take a lot of time. My experience was I took 2 hours from the pier to reach Pasih Uug as I was so clueless how to get to the place. On my second time with Duwi, it’s actually took 45 minutes only to reach this place, embarrassing !
6.    If you want to visit all of those places above you need 2 days 1 night. Otherwise if you want to go for Day Trip, it’s still possible with the destination (Pasih Uug, Angels Bilabong, Kelingking beach) as the last boat to go back to Sanur is at 03.00 pm.
7.    One day trip in Nusa Penida cost around Rp 450.000-500.000/person (including boat ticket, car transportation in Nusa Penida, Lunch, and guide – minimum 5 people). It depends on your nationality. If you have question and want to ask about the trip arrangment, please feel free to email me at kadekarinisg@gmail.com

Majestic View of Borobudur Sunrise via Puthuk Setumbu and Manohara Hotel

Have been listed as one of the world 7 wonders, Borobudur Temple becomes the must visit place when in Central java. It was constructed in the 8th-9th century during the golden era of Sailendra Dynasty. Borobudur is the largest buddhist monument in the world with the pyramid shape construction. It was designed to be climbed, and visitors able to follow the path to the top.
Photo by Renaldi Ahmad (check his page here)
The history of Borobudur sounds unreal for me, Borobudur temple used to be the holy Buddhist temple before it was abandoned. Borobudur was hidden and buried under a layer of soil and volcanic ashes. The trees and wild shrubs were dominated the abandoned land. No one sure why this temple has been ever forgotten. Rumor said because some people switched to moslem as the reason. During 1811-1816 Thomas Stamford Rafless (the governor of Java at that time) finally managed to find again Borobudur Temple and making it as the world heritage building.
Photo by Renaldi Ahmad (check his page here)
Located 40 km from Yogyakarta, Borobudur offers the fantastic views from the temple over the green fields and trees to distant hills and volcanoes. The best time to come here is when sunrise, no wonder there are some tour packages offer sunrise trip in Borobudur. There are 2 different spots to watch the sunrise in Borobudur you might choose :
Photo by Renaldi Ahmad (check his page here)
SUNRISE FROM BOROBUDUR TEMPLE (VIA MANOHARA HOTEL)
The wake up call rang at 02.00 am, in order to catch the sunrise we have to depart from Yogyakarta at 03.30 am. It took around 1-1,5 hour from Yogyakarta to Borobudur Temple where located in Magelang, Central Java. Borobudur Temple generally opens for tourist at 08.00 am, tourists are not allowed to go inside the temple before the gate opens. To be able to see the sunrise inside the temple, travelers have to go via Manohara Hotel. Manohara Hotel is located next the temple and it has special access to Borobudur. No gate open for the sunrise except from Manohara hotel, that’s why the ticket price is quite expensive for this tour. It cost Rp 270.000 (USD 21) for local tourist and Rp 400.000 (USD 31) for foreigner. The ticket includes coffee and snacks time after the tour end.
The tour guide gave me a flashlight to flash on the dark way. Step by step I climbed the stairs to reach the top. People came more and more as the sun rose up. People were so busy looking for the best spot to take picture. No more free space, every corner was filled by Tourists holding a camera or a view of selfie sticks which almost covered the scenery.
Photo by Renaldi Ahmad (check his page here)
Apart from my expectation of getting such a misty sunrise moment pictures, it still felt amazing to see the dark sky slowly changed into yellowish colour and became bright blue sky at the end. It felt amazing watching the sun light sneaking through the Stupa, and It felt amazing to see those misty fog adorned the greenery hills and volcanoes as the background of the temple.
Photo by Renaldi Ahmad (check his page here)

SUNRISE FROM PUTHUK SETUMBU
Another option to enjoy the beautiful sunrise of Borobudur in affordable way is from Puthuk Setumbu. This spot becomes my favorite as it was less crowded, seeing the Borobudur from above was surprisingly such an unique scenery for me. Puthuk Setumbu is located 20 minutes away from Borobudur. Depart from Yogyakarta at 03.00 am, you’ll arrive at 04.45 am on location. You can follow the direction to Manohara Hotel, after pass this hotel, go straight, there will be an intersection and sign board to Borobudur Nirvana Sunrise, turn right and go straight until you find the parking lot of Puthuk Setumbu. Buy the ticket at the locket for Rp 30.000 (foreigner) and Rp 15.000 (local).
Photo by Bimo Dp (check his page here)
Sunrise starts at 05.30 am, so better to wait a little bit longer and find the best spot. If you are lucky, the sunrise view would look so magical with the sun rise in the middle of Merbabu mountain and Merapi volcano. The layer of trees and fog dominating the view, but Borobudur Temple still looks so bold among the tree silhouttes.
Photo by Bimo Dp (check his page here)

Two hours driving from Jakarta, Bandung is becoming a popular destination to escape from a busy capital city.  My friend who works in Jakarta told me that he visits Bandung once in a month, because he thinks Bandung can offer the relaxation and a chill feeling I’ve visited Bandung a couple of times since i grew up in Jakarta. As a capital city of West Java, Bandung now becomes more and more develop. The new government is successfully managing Bandung as an attractive city and being so friendly for young people and family. Let’s see what Bandung can offer :

ARMOR KOPI AS THE HIPSTER CAFÉ
Bandung has so many kind of hipster cafes. Some of cafes are managed and founded by creative young people. Yes, Bandung is also listed as a creative city in Indonesia, this is naturally happened because there is one of the best universities of Indonesia located in Bandung. It calls Bandung Institute of Engineering, even though the name sounds like it specifically for engineering, it also famous with its faculty of art.
Cireng, the most famous Bandung meals !

Woke up early morning and heading to a beautiful coffee shop located in the middle of the pine trees. It just felt so amazing having my first glass of coffee, Fried Banana and Cireng (a traditional Bandung meals made of flour and deep fried).  This is definitely how those Bandungnese start the day. Armor Kopi is located in TAHURA (a nick name of natural park). There are plenty of coffee shops you can find here.

BANDUNG CULINARY
Bandung also usually been chosen as the culinary destination as it has such a very unique traditional delicious foods ! Let’s start from my favorite :
Durian Ice Cream (USD 1)

I have to admit everything about durian will always be my favorite ! haha Sorry for the selfish opinion, but seriously guys, if you are fan of durian, you should put this one as the number one list. Durian Ice cream usually served in a plastic glass and it contents of durian ice cream and some real durian fruits. You can easily find this ice cream in food stalls.
Batagor (USD 1)
A plate of Batagor contents of deep fried flour mixed with fish, fried tofu, and peanut sauce. Easy to find as this one also Bandung special culinary menu !
Bakso Cuanki (USD 1,5)
As Bandung is located in highland area, the weather here is so perfect around 15-20 celcius degree during day time, even colder at the night. That’s why a bowl of soup also become a favorite meal. Bakso Cuanki is made of Meatballs, tofu and boiled flour mixed fish served with a hot tasty soup. This was recommended by my Bandung FriendAris (click his name to see his page). The store is located at Jalan serayu No 2, Cihapit, Bandung.

SHOPPING IN BANDUNG
Oh yess, who doesn’t love shopping ? Going to Bandung is not perfect without shopping. Bandung has so many kind of shopping area.
PARIS VAN JAVA
If you like branded stuffs with discount, you might check Paris Van Java. It’s actually a mall but sometimes there's such a big bazaar sale. For example, when I was there, there was a surfing brand sales up to 80%. I bought a roxy pants from the original price Rp 400.000 (USD 31) became Rp 150.000 (USD 11) after discount. I also bought a Billabong bikini for only Rp 100.000 (USD 8) after being discount from Rp 499.000 (USD 38)
RUMAH MODE FACTORY OUTLET
Bandung is well known as the city of Factory Outlets.  One famous factory outlet named RUMAH MODE. Factory outlets basically have cheap prices as they are all designed and made by the locals.

JALAN RIAU
Jalan Riau is the place for hipster young people. There are plenty of local brand  with good design owned by young entrepreneurs
PASAR GEDE BAGE
This is the biggest flea market area in Bandung, they sell vintage clothes and things.

DUSUN BAMBU FOR A FAMILY GETAWAY
I do remember when I was a kid, my father always brought me to Bandung to have a Family getaway. Even until now I am 25 years old, Bandung is still being a favorite for those families. Dusun Bambu offer some activities for family members.
Not only a restaurant which beautifully decorated in West Java Traditional design, but also a unique concept for kids holiday. They have a lake and we can have a tour with a wooden boat. They also will pick you up with this fancy colorful van from the parking lot to the main attractions

The Padlock of Love and Highest View in Seoul Tower (South Korea Trip Part 1)

I thought last year, 2015 would be my first and last year visit to South Korea, but turns out this October 2016 became my second visit to South Korea. I am feeling so excited about writing this South Korea journeys as I found those little gems that become the reasons why most of people said South Korea is a beautiful country. Apart of the geography fact that this country is being surrounded by so many mountains, it felt amazing to be able to know more about its culture.
We departed from Soekarno Hatta International Airport with Garuda Indonesia Airline to Incheon International Airport. Incheon is about 1-1,5 hour from Seoul, the flight time itself took about 6 hours with time difference Indonesia is 2 hours behind South Korea. Flying over the sunrise is my favorite flight time !
Took a night flight, I arrived in Incheon at 08.00 AM, there was Korean girl has been waiting for us holding a sign board named Korea Tourism Organization. This is Jeannie, our beautiful Korean tour guide. With a super hungry stomach, Jeannie took us walking around the Seoul Tower. A little burger restaurant was being a hero of my craving stomach at my first day in South Korea.
Seoul Tower is so famous as the highest peak in Seoul, with the height 236 meter, we can see 360 view of Seoul city from above. While waiting for my burger, I managed to strolling around the area where those lovebirds lock their love in a padlock.
As a country that famous by its romantic Korea Drama, so many tourists are being hypnotized of the belief of whoever put the padlocks and write the name of the couple in it will have a long lasting relationship. But, Besides that belief, those colorful padlocks beautifully decorate the wooden deck.
I know when I write this, there would be some question asking “so Kadek, did you manage to have your own love padlock ?” Hmmm…..maybe someday J
Decided to go up to the highest floor of Seoul tower, we bought a ticket for 10.000 won (USD 12) for adult. As I arrived at the top, I was pretty excited seeing all the view of Seoul city. The only thing that disappointed me at that moment was the cloudy weather Lwhich was totally a matter for me as it would bother the result of the photos I have to produce. But well, sometimes we have to put away all the gadgets and enjoy all the experiences in front of us, either good or bad, that’s what called adventure.
The highest floor was covered by a transparent tempered glass where you can see everything from above. There are also a couple of souvenir shops and a photo booth place where I captured a couple who were not young anymore did a photo shoot with Korean traditional clothes. They look so shy and nervous, yet still look so cutee !!

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST
10.000 won for adult, and 8.500 won for children

Cooking Class Korean Food in K-Hub Style, Seoul (South Korea Trip Part 2)

$

0
Talking about Korean food, the question that always running on my head is “How come those Koreans can be still skinny while the ingredients of all their foods they consume are made of carbo ?” The fact that there are few carbohydrate ingredients plates at Korean food is true, even more than one plate. Okay, let’s start talking about the Korean food that I cook. I arrived in K-Style Hub at 03.00 PM, the place itself is just next to Korea Tourism Organization office.
We cooked Japchae & Shrimp Vegetable pancake
I was pretty surprised seeing the cooking class room as it look like a fancy kitchen in Master Chef show. One long table consisted of 2 Gas Stoves, 2 sinks, 2 free space for 2 groups. The chef’s table was located in front of us with the huge LCD as the background. There was one Ahjuma (a nickname for Korean old woman) who did a demo with Korean language of course, at the right side there was a young lady translated the language into English.
The master chef is doing a demo
When Ahjuma started to cook, I thought I had to follow what she’s been doing, turns out she crossed her hands and said “STOP” which means all the participants didn’t allow to cook before the demo was done. We have to keep our eyes to the demo, and once it finished, we can do our own cooking process.
Long short story, it’s now my time to cook by myself !! So nervous AF as I am such a lazy daughter who never go to the kitchen to help my mom haha ! I just love to eat but I hate the process !
Kaka Cumilebay looks like an expert Korean food chef
Based on the menu, I will cook Japchae (Korean noodle made of sweet potato) and shrimp vegetable pancakes. A big difference of Korean food comparing to Indonesian food is they use less seasoning, they don’t use MSG, they slightly use salt which sometimes make some of the foods don’t match my Indonesia tongue that used to be spoiled by tasty food.
Shrimp Vegatable pancake in the making
Shrimp Vegetable Pancakes is the only one among others that suit my tongue, it was basically made of flour, vegies and shrimp that were mixed together, stir and being fried with sesame oil. The key to get the perfect pancake shape is when it was cooked 70 %, beat one egg and spread it in the center of the pancake and cook a few minutes over low heat.
Japchae is made of sweet potato
Japchae in the making
The second menu is Japchae, this menu always show up in every Korean food. Japchae is a noodle made of sweet potato or Indonesian call it “ubi”, the noodle was being boiled and stir fried with vegetable and meat. And the last one was of course a bowl of rice. So, for these 3 kind of menus, all of them were made of carbo, rice is definitely carbo, Japchae which contained by noodle is also obviously carbo, and what about the last one ? The pancakes ? Absolutely flour is carbo ! Here it came the same question “How come those Korean people are still skinny while the ingredients of all their foods prepared of carbo ?”
voila !! i am inviting everyone to taste what i cook :P
But, what can compare the taste of the food that was cook by ourselves ? The chance to say that the food is insanely delicious now could be yours, even though you will be the only one who know the real taste. After finished eating, I left all the dishes at the table and walked away heading to the exit door, until some of the participants shouted at me and said “Kadek, you have to clean up your own dishes !” that was the most embarrassing moment that happened at my first day in South Korea.
Marischka Prue on duty
That was like a big difference comparing Indonesia culture, I used to be spoiled by the cleaning services. Order the food, eating, and leave the dishes as knowing there would be staffs will clean  the tables. But here in Korea, it would never be happened. I needed time to getting used to the habit. Every time after eating, I had to bring the dishes to the trash bin that already provided and not supposed to leave them dirty and messy on the table.

For those who are interested, reservation have to be made at least 3 days prior to the visit, and lessons would be canceled if there are less than 10 people sign up for the program.

Hanbok, Traditional Korean Dress Experience in Jeonju Hanok Village (South Korea Trip part 3)

Feeling like a Korean Princess in this Hanbok dress. Somehow I wonder how amazing this world for having so many kind of different cultures in around the world, and each has their own uniqueness. The rich culture that Korea has certainly become the interesting point of tourism community. South Korea is really popular with their palaces and traditional villages that being preserved and now become the UNESCO heritage sites.
“Okay, today’s itinerary, we will dress up in traditional Korean clothes and wandering around the Korea traditional village” said Jeannie our tour guide. Pretty much I thought that day was going to be a lot of fun !! Just 10 minutes away from our hotel in Hansung Hotel Jeounju, there was another lady dress up in Korea traditional dress explained the general information of the village. She walked up to the stairs in order to get the view from above. Just 5 minutes we arrived at the view point, it started to be raining, we kept walking but unfortunately the rain remained harder.
We decided walked down and stopped the activities until the rain over. I was so worried as the rain was getting harder and there wasn’t sign to stop in the next few hours. Couple of minutes later, Jeannie came up and brought us some umbrellas, we managed to go to the paper craft workshop where we will do the craft thing.
Get my korean crafting done !  finally i have a mirror :D
I know God heard the pray of indonesian lady who really wanted dress up like princess for once in her lifetime, the rain stopped and we came back to Jeonju Hanok Village after lunch. It was pretty sunny after the rain, and Jeonju Hanok Village was getting more and more crowded. As Jeannie said, there are couple of Hanbok rent houses, they have variety rent prices, it depends on what kind of dresses that we choose.
The one like this cost around 10,000 won
First thing to do when arrive at the workshop, I were given the locker key to keep all the stuffs safety. And then the staff asked me to choose which dress I would like to wear. There are 2 rows which divided by its price.

The rent price for Female Hanbok Clothes (2 hour) :
- Casual Hanbok (no pattern, and plain colour) cost around 5,000-10,000 won (5-10 USD)
- Pattern Hanbok (floral, colorful) cost around 15,000-20,000 won (15-20 USD)

The rent price for Male Hanbok Clothes (2 hour) :

- Casual Hanbok (no pattern, and plain colour) cost around 8,000-10,000 won (5-10 USD)
- King Hanbok (floral, colorful) cost around 15,000-20,000 won (15-20 USD)
I and cumilebay are ready to explore the area. Photo by Wira Nurmansayah
I felt so comfy wearing a hanbok, and it was really easy to use !! There was just 2 steps to complete the look. First step would be the dress (the skirt) and the second step was, put the bolero (the top). After finished dress up, the lady let me sitting down and she did my hair bride, the last one was put the headband. Voila !! now I’m ready to walk beautifully like a Korean princess. Almost at the end of main street, there was a palace named Gyeonggijion to complete your picture setting place absolutely !
Hanbok that i wore cost 15,000 won as it has pattern on the top. Photo by Wira Nurmansayah
Surprisingly, not only foreigner tourists wore the hanbok but also the local tourists ! You will see so many couples walking around and did selfie together in hanbok costume. Even I successfully captured a couple who were doing a pre-wedding photo shoot with their metal photographer (read tripod).
A couple who did a pre-wedding photographer with tripod. I actually helping them get the best shot and they didn't mind :P
What else you can do in Jeonju Hanok Village ?? Yes FOOODD !! Along the main street of this area are food stalls, restaurants and souvenir shops. You will definitely feel hungry because of the smells, even though you just ate 3 times before that.

WATCHING JEONJU MUSIC FESTIVAL AND KOREA DANCE SHOW IN SOUTH KOREA

$

Even though this was my 2nd time visit South Korea, but this was my first time watching Korean musical and dance show. As we already know that K-Pop and K-Drama are the factors that make the tourism of South Korea keep growing. It's not only a few people decided to come to Korea just because they want to watch the K-Show in the country where it comes from, but a lot. Check out these 3 Korea Music and Dance show to make your Korea Trip itinerary feels different :

1. JEONJU MUSIC FESTIVAL

One of the reasons why we came to Jeonju is because Jeonju Music Festival was being held on October. This event is held only once in a year, so it was such a privilege opportunity to be able to attend this festival. Not only the music show people can find in the event but also some stalls that sell creative craft stuffs.
The first time I arrive in event spot, I was amazed by the decoration, there was a little outdoor chilling area with such a unique decoration. They used recycle stuffs to decorate the area.
Some food stalls were placed in container concept stalls, they sell snacks like churros, burger, ice cream, and some local snacks that I don’t remember the names. One ticket I got to watch the show about Korean women, it was indoor and we were not allowed to take picture during the show. The show is in korea language, but we were given an English translated book.
Not only indoor show, there were also some outdoor stages, the one behind the main building is for competition show, for example : kid’s singing show, taekondo show. And the bigger stage showed the local musician which were my favorite ! there was not seats, people who want to watch the show had to sit at the stairs located right in front of the stage. Apparently I just know that Jeonju Music Festival also has performed in some overseas country, and they will come to Indonesia as well.

2. FIREMAN SHOW - SO ENTERTAINING !
I wasn’t that interesting when seeing the title of the show, the first thing came on my mind was I was afraid that I would be sleeping during the show. I was afraid that it would be a boring show as it came for almost 2 hours. But, turned out that Fireman Show is my most favorite dance show that I’ve ever watched.
The Story was about all of the fireman officers and took a setting in fireman camp. There were 5 main actors who each has different personality. The story line was about their daily practice to become a good fireman. There was no dialogue, all the story was covered by dance and gesture. They also put jokes in all of the show that made the show turned to be so entertaining instead of boring !
At the last scene, they turned off the light and throw some paper that glowing in the dark and made it look like a fire in the dark.

3. SACHOOM – KOREAN DANCE SHOW WITH LOVE STORY
I always get impress by all of the dancing abilities of those Korean people. They dances so good and total. Sachoom is also one of the famous Korean dance show that already having a roadshow in some countries. The sachoom story was about how the human being was born and being a kids, get a long to teenager’s life, fall in love, getting married, having kids, turn old, and die.
The story pushed the guests to always chase your dream, because you only live once and don’t let that dream never happen and be buried together with your body.  I love how they cover the stories in the fun way and performed by so many good looking actor and actress !

Have you ever watched the Korea Dance Show, Let's share your experiences in the comment below :)

First Day #SoloTravel in China, I took the wrong train for 10 hours ride

$

“If I am being asked to describe 3 words to all of my journeys in China, I will definitely say : PAIN, BRAVE, INCREDIBLE”

My Solo Travel in China was started on 26 November 2016. I decided to move out of Xi’an (the city where I landed in China) heading to Jiuzhaigou National Park. I know this trip would be challenging as some of people said that I am a brave girl when choosing this route. If you haven’t know my route, it was started from Xi’an and then going south and ended up in Shangri-la. For this plan, I should pass 3 provinces and more than 10 cities in China. But it turned out to be 4 provinces.
To go to Jiuzhaigou national park where located in Sichuan Provinces, I have to take train heading to Guangyuan for 8 hours and then continue with the bus for another 7 hours. I read on some articles before that :

There are 3 ways to buy train ticket in China :
1.   Book online via official China Railway website (in chinese and no English), this one absolutely wasn’t my choice.
2.   Book in locket counter at the station, as I read on some articles, usually there will be so many people get in line to buy the ticket, and mostly it would take 2 hours.
3.   Book via online travel agents, there are 3 travel agents (www.chinatravelguide.com, www.china-train-ticket.com,www.etripchina.com), which you can book online train ticket in China. After trying all of those three, I chose www.etripchina.com as this one is easier to use, user friendly and has the cheapest price among the others. They will charge you around 10-20 rmb in every ticket. But you don’t have to get in line for 2 hours. You just need to show your booking number and change it into valid ticket in special ticket counter at the station.
Xi'an Railway Station
I got my booking number train ticket with route Xi’an to Guangyuan. When arrived in Xi’an station, you just can go to ticket office counter and show your booking number along with passport. Everything went okay after

"the lady said that the passport number that I submitted on online booking didn’t match to my passport number"

That being said, I missed put 1 number of my actual passport number. The booking ticket was denied and I had to buy the new ticket. So, I went to the next locket counter and got my line for 30 minutes. To avoid the misunderstanding, I did screenshot the name of the destination that I wanna go on google maps. Google maps showed 2 languages, the English name at the first one and under the English name there was also the chinese version.

I showed her that I wanted to buy the ticket from Xi’an to Guangyuan. And then the lady said “oh Guyuan !” I just said “Okay” because I thought that Guyuan was the chinese version of Guangyuan (I didn’t know there was another area name Guyuan which has almost similar pronounciation with Guangyuan).

I was so confident passed all the security things one by one and finally got my seat inside the train. I bought the hard seat class and that was totally okay. There wasn’t so many people and they didn’t look dirty as what people figure out of chinese.

05.00 AM – After 9 hours ride on train
It was already 9 hours ride on the train, I took a look at my google maps to check how long would it be to be arrived. Turned out something strange showed up, my location went away of the destination. The train’s route should be going south of Xi’an but it went north and kept going north. That time I realized that I took the wrong direction.  I was so clueless…

“There was only one thing that I really wanted to do that time “ask someone to make sure whether I am in the right train or not” But then I reminded myself that “Kadek, You are now in China, Nobody speak English and no one would understand what you say” i remained be quite"
It was 5 am in the morning, I decided to get off in Guyuan station, it was still dark and so cold with 4 celcius degree. I walked out of the station hoping that there was a warm space for me to just wait. But as I went out , there was the only indoor little locket counter that I can come in. Guyuan Station in Ningxia province is very small, it’s not the tourist area so everything wasn’t foreigner-friendly. It was so dead quite and there wasn’t anyone there. The light was off and there was a board said that locket will open at 08.00 am.

I put my backpack under my ass and sat above it to reduce the cold. I really didn’t have any idea what should I do that time. I was really shocked thus I couldn’t think clearly. It took 30 minutes to make me calm, do something and moved forward. Thank’s to internet that I could check the next train I should take, and again it’s only www.etripchina.com that I can understand. The next train from Guyuan to Guangyuan would be at 9.00 pm for 15 hours. I booked directly the ticket but since the sleeper seat was out and I just got the hard seat ticket.
It was just another Solo Travel challenge when I checked the weather forecast showed that day was going to be snowing with -4 celcius degree. It was getting colder and colder and I didn’t prepare much that clothes to hit the snow. I felt that my body stamina was getting lower and decided to look for place to stay to wait for my train. I saw in google maps that there were a couple of hostel located near the station. I decided to walk to that direction, but found nothing.

“They were just such old chinese buildings which look creepy and empty”

I walked away, and found another building that has kind of reception desk and 3 kind of worldwide clocks behind the reception desk with the lady stood in between. I went inside and asked “is this hotel?” She didn’t speak English and I used my gesture hoping that she would understand what I meant. I let my two hands meet together and put them beside my ear. She look understand that I need a place to sleep. And then she shook her head.

"what the hell this building is ?? they have so many rooms with the number in front of the doors on the 2nd floor which i found when i was about going to toilet, and it just looks like an accommodation place, but she always said NO everytime i said i want to sleep ??"

Okay It wasn’t hotel then, without any oral communication. I asked her to just wait in the sofa because it was so cold outside of the room. And she nodded. Recently i just found out that some hotels in China will not accept any foreigner's guest in some particular reasons.
that moment when you took selfie with tripod, but people around you kept seeing you weird

Again I took a look at www.etripchina.com to check is there any cheap hotel nearby. And I found one 3 km away, I showed the picture of the hotel to the lady means that I wanted to go to this hotel to sleep and then she helped me to call the cab and told him that I wanted to go to that hotel. The hotel is so big and it was 3 stars hotel with good price (130 rmb/night).

“The moment I finally exhaled my breath, hoping there must be someone speak English in the 3 stars hotel, BUT........I found nothing”

No one speak English even the hotel’s manager. But they were so nice, instead of ignoring me, they used google translate to communicate with me. And finally I was safe in that hotel, took a nap for 4 hours and when I woke up, it was snowing until the night coming and I had to go back to the train station.

“As I arrived in train station, people look at me in very weird way that I was the only foreigner existed in that group of chinese people”

It was really weird sight of me when I took my seat in hard seat class. The train look so dirty and smell so bad, it was so crowded and noisy with some kids running here and there in the aisle. Most of people put their foots on the seat instead of under the seat, and it was so smelly…..I don't know why they always keep the trash bin in between their legs which absolutely smell so bad.

(heyyy guys those are trash bin where you throw all the rest foods, fruits. why the hell you guys always hugging them ???)
One hour later there was an officer coming and those local people who sat next to me told something to her, and couple minutes later there was another officer came and spoke to me

“do you need sleeper ?” that was the moment I finally exhale my breath again that it felt so safe to find someone speak English in China.
I said “yes” ! with her broken English she asked me to follow her and paid extra 88 rmb for the sleeper class. Then I was safe and slept so well until I arrived the day after in Guangyuan, THE RIGHT DESTINATION.

MY FIRST OVERLAND BUS IN CHINA WAS HEADING TO JIUZHAIGOU NATIONAL PARK

"Once I asked my friend who has lived in China for 3 years “what is the most beautiful place in China that I should come?” He definitely answered “The most beautiful place in china that I’ve came is Jiuzhaigou National Park”

The statement that always running on my head to made me finally decide to put it on my bucket list. I departed from Guyuan, Ningxia Province where I accidentllay went to this place (read the story how did I go to the wrong direction).

Fifteen hours passed, I arrived in Guangyuan railway station. The station was pretty huge and new, there was also English and chinese sign board. I got off of the train and followed the sign board to Long-distance bus terminal where located on the next of the railway station. There were couple of buses on the bus terminal. The ticket counter sign board was in chinese and no English. I asked to some officer and showed my google translate told them that I wanted to buy ticket to Jiuzhaigou. One of the ladies pointed out to the locket counter, as I walked to that direction, there was another lady yelling so loud just 5 meter away from my ears “Jiuzhaigou !! Jiuzhaigou !! come follow me !!” I followed her just because she spoke English. She asked me to pay for 90 rmb for one ticket but I didn’t get the ticket, she just told me to go inside of the bus and sat on the front.
The bus to Jiuzhaigou
The bus ride took 6 hours with 20 minutes stop for lunch time. During that 6 hours, we stopped two times for toilet stop, this was also my first time to deal with

public toilet in China which always make me want to throw up everything on my stomach every time I remember those horrible experiences.

The view from my window seat from Guangyuan to Jiuzhaigou
When you travel in China especially the remote area, you should getting used to the public toilet where we exactly pee together in the same room which only divided by 50 cm partition between the holes and have to pay 1 rmb for the manual hole (what I mean manual is only a hole not the squad WC or those kind of WC machine) that never be flushed ! YESS A HOLE THAT NEVER BE FLUSHED OR DON'T HAVE FLUSH !!

Well that’s the fact that recognized me boldly....
“HEY WELCOME TO CHINA !”

The bus that took me to Jiuzhaigou
The bus departed at 11.00 am and will stop at Jiuzhaigou bus terminal which is 40 km away from Jiuzhaigou National park or Pengfeng Village (the area where there are some hotel and hostel located). I read on some travel online sources that from Jiuzhaigou bus terminal, you just can tell the driver to go to pengfeng village and pay extra 10 rmb, but then the driver didn’t take that route. Lucky me, I met a british couple, and the guy spoke chinese very well. So I asked them to go together to Pengfeng village. We took a sharing car and pay 40 rmb for each.
Pengfeng Village
The area where so many hostels located named Pengfeng Village. It’s only located 15 minutes walk to the Jiuzhaigou National Park entrance. I stayed in Friendship hostel which has good reviews and good rates in booking.com and hostelworld.com. I got my bed in a dorm and again felt safe when found someone speak English. There were Jerome (Taiwanese who speak both English and chinese), Caroline (Chinese who speak both as well), Rebecca (American), and Isolina (Chile) being my roommates. The moment finally I can do the verbal communication after didn’t talk for the past 3 days.
Having dinner together with my new roomates Caroline and Jerome !
Every night in Friendship Hostel, there was a short brief introduction about the National Park by the owner named Robbie. It was really helpful as I didn’t have any idea about the park before. Robbie told me that there was 2 ways to explore the national park and 1 day is enough to cover all of the things. He also told us that we should book ticket in advance to avoid queue on the spot. We just needed to pay extra 5 rmb to get the ticket in advance. The hostel also provide a car to drop us to the park at 06.00 am. So, the day after we got in and arrived in JiuZhaiGou National Park.

HOW TO GET THERE :

FROM XI'AN TO JIUZHAIGOU
- Take the train to Guangyuan Station
- When you get off of Guangyuan Station, follow the direction to long-distance bus terminal where located next to the railway station (the sign board are in english and chinese, so dont worry)
- Buy the ticket to Jiuzhaigou for 90 rmb on the ticket counter (just say jiu-zhai-gou, or show them this chinese language
(九寨沟)
- The bus will stop at the city center of jiuzhaigou which is 40 km from Jiuzhaigou national park.
- When you get off of the bus, there will be so many people asking you to go to Jiuzhaigou national park. Take the sharing car for 40 rmb/each, just show this chinese language to the driver or say Jiu Zhai Gou
(九寨沟) , or if you already have the address of your hostel, show the chinese address. It will take around 1 hour to go to pengfeng village.

FROM CHENGDU TO JIUZHAIGOU
- You also can reach Jiuzhaigou from Chengdu with bus for 8 hrs ride.
- The bus go 3 times in a day
- It's better to buy at the hostel you stay, just ask the reception desk, and they will buy it for you.
- The cost is 150 rmb for  one way ticket, and the bus will stop directly in Pengfeng village.

ACCOMODATIONS :
I stayed in Friendship hostel which has good reviews and good rates in booking.com and hostelworld.com. The staffs speak English so fluent, and there was an electric bed to make it warm, as the weather in Jiuhaigou would be around 4-6 celcius in daytime and below 4 at night. The rates is 60 rmb/nights. Foods are all delicious !! they serve western and chinese foods as well.

BACKPACKING GUIDE TO EXPLORE JIUZHAIGOU (九寨沟) NATIONAL PARK IN ONE DAY TRIP

$

“Whaatt ??? 310 RMB for only one day trip ?? That’s so EXPENSIVE !!” I surprisingly said those words when knowing the entrance ticket price.

Arrived safely in Jiuzhaigou National Park, read here how to go to Jiuzhaigou National Park for Solo Travel. Jiuzhaigou is my first stop of my overland #SoloTravel in China. As many people said Jiuzhaigou is one of the most beautiful national park in China. It homes to clear lakes, beauty autumn scenery and Tibetan population on the mountain. I went here at the end of October which is the best season for autumn. Apart of its beautiful scenery, it’s kinda tricky to explore the park, but actually if you do it right, you can cover all of the things in only one day trip in Jiuzhaigou national Park. Take a look at my tips on how you can explore Jiuzhaigou in the right way :

1. ENTRANCE TICKET JIUZHAIGOU NATIONAL PARK
I was so shocked as that would be my first expensive national park entrance ticket. Yess it’s 310 RMB or around 48 USD for only one day. You have to pay again if you are going out of the park and planning to come back in the next day ;

- Entrance ticket : 220 RMB (Adult), 120 (student)
- Bus ticket : 90 RMB

There are two ways to buy the entrance ticket :
- Ticket on the spot : Ticket counter opens at 07.00 am. Most of people already get in line at around 06.30 am. So, when you come over 10.00 am, you need at least 1 hour to queue.
- Ticket from travel agent/hostel : Another way to buy the ticket is through travel agent or the hostel where you stay. You usually have to pay extra 10 rmb for the commission. The good thing of buying ticket in advance is, you will get the ticket the day before you arrive, so you don’t have to queue in the locket counter. I paid for 320 RMB for the total in the hostel where I stayed (Friendship Hostel).

2. WHAT YOU CAN SEE IN JIUZHAIGOU NATIONAL PARK
Located in the north of Chengdu City, Jiuzhaigou valley is located on the edge of Tibetan plateu and stretches over 450 km. Inscribed by UNESCO as heritage sites which well known for its many multi-level waterfall and colorful lakes.

- Clear Water Lakes
You’ll be amazed of the first clear water lake as it becomes the most clear water lake I’ve ever seen ! Visitors are not allowed to swim as those are believed as sacred places. Almost all the lakes couldn’t be reached as it was restricted by the fence. Take a deep breath as you will see more and more clear water lakes after the first one.

“yesss they have a lot of clear water lakes, like a looottttt, make sure don’t be tired of those similar sceneries ;)”

- Waterfall

There are couple of waterfall along the route, I found 3 kind of waterfalls with Nuo Ri Lang as the biggest one.

- Autumn Vibes
Yess the best season to come is in Autumn on Mid of October until Start of November, as the trees would turn into red and yellow.

- Tibetan Village
Jiuzhaigou National Park used to be the area of Tibetan population as it is located on the edge of Tibetan plateu. Until now, there are still 2 Tibetan villages existed which some of them already becomes a guesthouse.

“YESSS…. you can stay overnight in those Tibetan village, so you don’t have to pay the entrance ticket for another day if you wish to spend 2 days exploring the park”.

They don’t speak English, if you have a plan already, better you just come and ask. They have a couple of rooms and only few people who stay in the village, so should be fine if you do this plan. The price would be around 150 RMB for 1 night including breakfast + lunch + dinner.
The guesthouse that Jerome stayed in Tibetan village inside Jiuzhaigou National Park
3. BETTER TO START EARLY AT 07.00 AM
The park opens at 07.00 AM, you’d start early at 07.00 AM, as there would be thousands of people, yess when I said THOUSAND is the real THOUSANDS of very big group people.

4. BUS INSIDE JIUZHAIGOU NATIONAL PARK
There will a bus to ride to explore the national park. We have to pay the ticket bus for 90 RMB in the entrance gate. The first bus starts to operate at 07.00 am from the park entrance. The bus will go straight for around 40 minutes to the central of tourist center, and continue to the right side (see the maps), if you wish to go to the left side first you have to get off at the central and take another bus heading to the left side.

“But, what’s the best route to take ? see my recommendation in the next point”

The bus ticket you paid for 90 RMB will be your free pass to every bus inside the park. You can take bus anytime, anywhere as long as you still keep the ticket (remember ! don’t throw it). There will be so many scenic spot to stop, and the bus will stop in every halte that heading to those spot.

“How if we prefer to do trekking instead of taking the bus ?”

Yess you are absolutely able to do trekking. If you see the maps, the yellow colour line is the walking path, and the black one is the bus road. The walking path is really visible to walk, it was made of wooden path and stairs with the fence on left and right side.

4. TWO OPTIONS TO EXPLORE JIUZHAIGOU NATIONAL PARK

Jiuzhaigou National Park has a “Y SHAPE”. We will start at the center before divided by two paths. I discovered 3 ways to cover all of the park :

- OPTION 1 – NOT BUY BUS TIKCET (WALKING). If you don’t plan to spend 90 RMB for the bus ticket, It will take around 3,5 hours to walk from the entrance park to the first bus stop. The fact that you will not be able to use the bus for the whole trip inside the national park sounds horrible, but looking at those hundred experience of tourists,  the staff wouldn’t check your bus ticket once you already inside the park. If there any staff check your ticket, that would  the most unlucky moment of your life. You can start walk at 07.00 am and reach the first bus stop at 11.00 am (during this track there wouldn’t be any bus stop). Take a break and having your lunch and continue taking the bus to the right side and then the left side. But this is my insight for you guys taking this option :
There will be pretty much things to see on the right side rather than from park entrance to the first bus stop. It’s just too pity if you spend many hours to walk from park entrance and only has a few hours to spend the right side. Otherwise, you have 2 days to explore would be totally fine, but for one day trip, I suggest you to spend that 90 RMB for the bus ticket and explore earlier morning on the right side (read the route that I took on option 3 )

- OPTION 2 – COVER ALL OF THINGS IN ONE DAY IN EASY WAY
Take the bus from the entrance park at 07.00 am and go to the right side as early as you can. Those big chinese group people will start their trip usually at 10.00 AM. There wouldn’t be anything to see at the highest spot of the right side, so I recommend the highest spot is Grass lake, take your first photo there and then going down walking (there will be a wooden track) to explore other spots.
As the day getting late, the stairs wooden path would be filled by so many people and it will make you walk slower as you have to share the 1 meter path to those hundreds people. If you feel tired, you can take the bus at the nearest bus stop.

- OPTION 3 – THE ROUTE THAT I TOOK
The route that we took a little bit hardcore as me and my hiking partner (Jerome, see this post to know more about him) was trying to getting out of those people’s crowd. We took the bus from the entrance park, and stop at
1.   our first stop at Mirror Lake at 07.30 am to photograph the mirror lake before too many people coming.
2.   Then we continue walking up the path (yes we walked up when people went down, we were the only one who climbed the stairs, this could be an option to keep walking fast and avoid queue in the stairs, but yess prepare your stamina as you will walk uphill for 4 hours)
3.   We kept climb the stairs to Panda Lake as the end which took around 4 hours to did it.
4.   And we took the bus from Panda lake bus stop heading down to Nuo Ri lang waterfall to have our lunch in the middle of the forest.
5.   After lunch we took the bus heading to Tibetan village. There are 2 tibetan villages, and we went to the second higher one as Jerome will stay overnight at the village.

6.   Got out of the village, we walked down explore the lakes and waterfalls like (Rhinoceros lake, Tiger lakes, Reed lake, Dragon lake, which mostly located on the side of the road)

Struggle is real to get beautiful photo :"
7.   At 04.00 pm, as we still had time, we decided take the bus to the left side, and reached the highest lake of Jiuzhigou National Park, Long Lake)
8.   Finished all the things at 05.00 pm and take the bus heading to park entrance while Jerome went back to the Tibetan village to stay 2 nights inside the national park.

5. FOOD INSIDE JIUZHAIGOU NATIONAL PARK
I discovered the best invention of my life, it’s MAGIC BOX.“It was named Magic Box because its ability to serve the warm food in portable lunch box without a fire or machine or even microwave”.
Magic box is basically a lunch box that consists of Rice, the meat with sauce flavor (you can choose any flavor), heater and water. It comes to be a magic when we put the heater and pour the water to let the heater drowning, put the rice above it and close it with the cover, and put the meat sauce under the box. Wait for a minute, and there the magic comes out !! The lunch box will be boiling for 5 minutes which make the rice and the meat sauce becomes warm. The normal price of this magic box is 16 USD, you can buy in any supermarket, or the hotel where I stayed (Friendship Hostel). You can also buy at the national park with price USD 24. Don’t worry, there are also a couple of restaurants inside the park, but as you know, foods in tourism places must be 5 times more expensive, it’s your choice now !

6. WEAR PROPER CLOTHES, IT’S REALLY COLD
Jiuzhaigou sits between 2000 masl – 4.500 masl, start the day earlier would be very cold. Wear proper jacket, and comfort shoes as you’ll walk many times. But it’s still funny to know the fact that

“I found some girls using high heals and short skirt just because for the beautiful stylish pictures, oh girrlll…..

7. HOW TO GET THERE (Read here how did i get to Jiuzhaigou in backpacking way)

FROM XI'AN TO JIUZHAIGOU

- When you get off of Guangyuan Station, follow the direction to long-distance bus terminal where located next to the railway station (the sign board are in english and chinese, so dont worry)

challenge for Q5, take a photo of indonesia food.
Seven of us were only given 100.000 rupiah (each) and 1 e-money card. The rule was no private transportation allowed, we had to take public transportation of Jakarta (and of course Uber and grab are not public transport). All of the quests were placed in Kota Tua, Jakarta. So we were heading to Kota Tua, Jakarta with the train from Cikini Station to Kota tua Station. For all of the 6 quests, I got the Question 5 to finish “ Indonesian food” photo. The rule that all people have to be in frame in the photo was quite challenging. But we have finally done them.

4. National Costume of Your Country

Second most favorite of the event. At the Gala night we have to dress up in our own national costume for the awarding announcement. It became pretty noisy suddenly in the lobby of hotel as people were all so amazed of all the different costumes that appeared.

CAN WE DO SELFIE WITH PANDA IN THEIR HOMELAND, CHENGDU ?

$

“if you are given an option to be an animal, what would you be ?” in 5 seconds I answered “PANDA”. Of course the next question came out was “WHY PANDA?” I didn’t know exactly why, but that was the first word came on my mind, but eventually I made my own reason that because Panda is such a lazy bastard who seem never do anything and never move their ass. But, instead of being ignored because of their laziness, human really obsessed with their cuteness !
I was just folly thinking to be like Panda who never make effort of their entire whole life but still got so many fans. Days in chengdu were my most favorite day off all over my Solo travel overland china. I got 4 days in Chengdu and managed to finish some pending works as chengdu was the city that I finally could be back to civilizatio
Chengdu is known by the home of Pandas, there is a big Panda Research Base of Giant Panda breeding where we can visit all the things about Panda, from the baby panda, adult Panda and red panda. And it was even more interesting because I just knew that Panda is not only in black and white colour but Panda also come in red species. The red Panda looks more like Mustang, and they were very energetic. They climbed the trees and move to another trees very fast comparing with the black and white panda.
Panda research center was pretty easy to reach. I took the metro in pink line which really surprised me because all the decoration I found were about Panda, even the wall graphic design. Once arrived in the bus stop, I just needed to walk for 100 meter to see the huge panda gate, yep like what I said

"On The way to panda reserve center, you’ll find all the decoration is about Panda”.

The entrance ticket is quite expensive but I didn’t mind as long as it’s for giving a life to Panda. We won’t be given a maps, so please pay attention to the big maps board right after passed the gate entrance. The park was quite big, and you can choose either walking or taking a sightseeing bus. I was heading to the furthest place to see the big Panda.  I was a little bit disappointed as I just saw one Panda who keep showing off his ass and not even look at me. I moved to another big Panda enclosure, the panda looks more friendly and active. He walked around and sometimes heading to the fence.

“PANDA IS BEING ABLE TO CLIMB THE TREES !"

OH nooooo why the hell I just know this fact ??!! I thought that Panda is one of those animals who cannot do anything other than sleeping. But, look here !! He was enjoying his peaceful moment at the top of the tree !!

"RED PANDA DOES EXIST !!"

Another fact that I know that Red panda does exist ! I was pretty curious when seeing the sign board of Red panda home. At the end of the route I ended up at the lake and a very photogenic and Instagramable bamboo trees tunnel. This looks like in arasiyama Kyoto, doesn’t it ?

"Can we hug the PANDA ? Can we do selfie with Panda ?"

Yes you can ! but as I know and read on some sources, you have to give the donation for 200 USD as it genuinely goes back to the care of Pandas. For them who just being regular visitor, we cannot get close to the panda as the were placed in a very big sanctuary and we are only allowed to stand behind the fence.

How to get there
-       Take the train to Xiongmaodadao Station
-       Take the exit 1, when you get off of the station, turn left and walk 100 meter to find the bus stop and take bus number 198A.
-       Your bus stop name is Panda Base Stop, it was around 1- minutes away from the train station
-        Cross the streets and walk about 100 meter to the entrance

I ALMOST DROP MY TEARS WHEN FLYING OVER CAPPADOCIA IN HOT AIR BALOON

$

“I was the one who got underestimated for dreaming too high, but now I am the one who’s living everyone's dream they said”

I was born and raised in a family that taught me “if you want something in your life, you have to make it happen by yourself”. My family is an average family, we don’t live in a big house nor going somewhere with luxury transportation, our lifestyle was pretty basic. We never do a family holiday going somewhere like other family do. My father used to work in a government office and got so many opportunities to travel around the world just because he’s one of those smart employees. Every time he got back from overseas countries, he showed me his thousand album photos while at the same time told me :

“if you want to travel around the world like me, you have to be in a high level position of your job, at least you have to be a manager or director, it’s really expensive to travel abroad, and you have to pay by yourself if you want”

10 years old me just kept thinking how to be a success person to be a able to see the world, touching my first snow, wearing my first stylist winter coat, having friends from different countries, and flying somewhere far away out of the country where I live in. Dad kept reminder me to just study and study to get a high position at job, so I can fulfill my dream to travel abroad. He told me it’s impossible to travel overseas at young age, he said my dream is too high for the 15 years old girl, I still have at least 20 years to pass to get my dreams come true.

"Stop dreaming, and be realistic"

I used to live in a family whom most of them are having a normal life. Get born, going to school, being a fresh graduate, having the first under paid job, getting married in 24-26 years old, saving money for buying a car, noticed as a success person when already have house and car, having kids, and live the entire streotype life. The lifestyle that is pretty much against my thoughts. No one have ever told me to be a person who never stop dreaming and dream as high as you can and catch it !

“it was me,people and society who i shared the life with that constructed a huge palace of "never stop dreaming" kingdom on my soul”

25 years old me now is living everyone’s dream they said. It’s not a young age anymore but it isn’t old as well to be able to see part of the world. I just graduated from my collage 2 years ago and I don’t have any important position at job, instead of i'm being a boss of my own job. But, here I checked list my travel Bucket List, fulfilling my dream. Sometimes, It still feels unbelievable I can travel that often in my 20’s age, one by one dropped the pins on google maps of places where I’ve been. Not to mention what my dad said to wait until I am 30’s something when i am at high position of job already to be able to see the world.
People say “Flying over the Cappadocia in hot air balloon are one of their magical experiences”.  Yes It really looks like that in google, it’s beautiful, it’s magical but there was the feeling I couldn’t even describe that made me almost drop my tears.

IT’S JUST TOO BEAUTIFUL TO BE TRUE, I ALMOST DROP MY TEARS

We started early morning at 06.30 am, it was still dark and there were only a gas fire of the balloon enlighten the morning. We were welcomed by a cup of hot tea and some cookies before boarding. There was only 1 instructor in every balloon. And the balloon that we ride was contained of 2 baskets. Each basket maximum capacity is 10 people.
Before flying, the instructor gave us some basic information about how the balloon will go up and what the guests have to do to support the balloon departing and landing. All of the instructors have flying licensed that listed on Turkey Ministry of Tourism, so safety first is very aware. I was so nervous at the first time as I used to have a problem with height, but turned out it becomes THE BEST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE.
The best moment when flying was 30 minutes after departed, because the sun started to rise up and we also can see the other balloons surround ours. One and a half hours in the air, 800 meter above sea level with Cappadocia view down there. That golden sunrise even made the vibes so perfect.

PS : It felt like one of my dreams come true, A very huge thank you to Turkish Airline for flying me to Turkey and fulfilling my dream :”)

TIPS AND TRICKS
- There are so many hot air balloon company with various prices with cost around 150-200 USD. The one that I went is Rainbow Balloons and cost 200 USD (including pick-up service and complimentary)
- The package is including snacks and celebration champagne when it finishes.
- We also will get a certificate of flight
- Pick up service at the hotel starts at 06.30 am on winter and 04.00 am on summer.

I got invited for the opening launch of the new property of Modena By Fraser Hotel in Bangkok since a month before I landed in Thailand. I never say NO to any invitation going to Thailand just because this country is my second South east Asian love after my own country, Indonesia.

“IT'S ALWAYS SO GOOD TO BE BACK TO BANGKOK !”

that’s the phrase I always say at the end of my trip in Bangkok. Apart of I have so many Thai friends nowadays, but also I fall in love with its street food !! Like totally being my another second street food love after indonesian street foods. Landed in Suvarnabmi International Airport, I got picked up by a lady holding a sign board of Modena Hotel by Fraser, the place where I would stay for the next 4 days.
"Click here the details about Modena by Fraser Hotel before heading to the next chapter"
It needs 45 minutes to reach the hotel from airport with some light traffic in the city center. From 200 meter away, I could see the high rise building with a very bold sign board of Modena by Fraser.
At the first sight, I fall in love with the newly modern architecture of the property. I was welcomed by the reception desk who then gave me a key heading to my room. My second favorite spot was the container box concept that delivered into the elevator, the yellow color made it contrast among other monochrome decoration color.
The Manager of the hotel gave me a complimentary to stay at one of the best room in the hotel. I was so surprised when stepping my first step changing from carpet to the wooden floor. It was a such a huge room full of facilities, like I could totally ended up cuddling on that convenient bed the whole day haha
I got my pantry where I could bake or prepare some light food by my own. And the sexy bathroom with the tempered glass connecting between bed room and bathroom was totally what I need after a long tired day.
As I am a freelancer which I could work from anywhere else, I used to finish my work in working table which face the window while waiting for the sunset with busy Bangkok city view.
The residences concept that Modena by fraser Hotel established makes really sense with its super strategic location. The bold feature is the Queen Sirikit national convention center where located just cross the hotel, and there is an underground walkway that connecting each other. Sirikit MRT station is just 1 minutes away walking from the lobby which makes the guests easier to access other destinations in Bangkok.
Even though all the architecture so modern, but Modena by fraser still bring the local culture into the building. Some of that we can see are the graphic design of TukTuk on the wall. Tuk Tuk is the local Thailand traditional vehicle.
The public facilities successfully accommodate the business traveler such as Fitness room, laundry room (which becomes my favorite !! because sometimes I got pretty confused looking for laundry out of the hotel where is stay, in house laundry is definitely a great idea !). There is also a bar near the lobby where usually have such a best deal promotion of drink ! (you gotta check out regularly).
It was such a pleasant stay in Modena by Fraser Bangkok, but I still have story of where I spent the days in Bangkok while enjoying my chill moments at night in Modena by Fraser Bangkok.

WHERE TO EAT IN BANGKOK ?? THESE ARE MY RECOMMENDATIONS

To be honest I am quite picky choosing food to eat, some of my friends see me weird because I don’t like the food that most of people like it. Okay, does it sound weird to you too ? *eh…

“My stay in Modena By Fraser Bangkok during 4 days in Bangkok was really one of the best chill moments in Bangkok’s property I’ve ever had (if you haven’t read about this story, read this before by click the link)”

Thailand is one of those countries that i never get enough of its local foods. Like all Thai foods are just suit my Asian tongue. I love street food, like I do really loveeee it….
That’s why when Modena by Fraser brought me to the floating market to experience the local street food, I got pretty much excited !!

TALING CHAN FLOATING MARKET
This is one of 5 floating markets in Bangkok, I was lucky because I came on Saturday which the market usually only open. Yep, every Saturday, you will see a bunch of tables filled devouring huge roasted prawns and all the famous roasted fish.
It was impressive to watch all the chefs prepared the foods on the boat which floating in the river. Walking out of the river, there was also an alley full of street food stalls along the way. They usually sell traditional thai snacks, from Thai tea, and all the beautiful foods decorated with garnish.

TOMYUM UFO IN SANSAB RESTAURANT, SIAM PARAGON
When you are in Thailand, scream for TOMYUM…….A short funny story about how all those thai really obsess with tomyum. When my Thai friend came to Indonesia, I asked him to try “Bakso” (Indonesian food made of meat ball and soup). Bakso used to have a clear soup with some noodle inside. But then my friend asked for more chili sauce and suddenly the soup color change from clear into red, just because he put too much chili sauce in order to make it more spicy (he said he doesn’t used to eat plain food, we Thailand are really a big fan of spicy and sour food). I simply told him “it’s now not called Indonesia bakso anymore, but Indonesia Tomyum). He then just laughed so hard…
The one that I tried was a little big different because it was served in a big plate with some toppings added which we can choose to put on our plates. The eating culture of  Thai people is share the foods, they usually order several menu and put it on the center of table, then we can grab anything to our own plates. This is the same concept, and you can request which topping you would like to add. PERFECT !!

MANGO TANGO, SIAM
Another screaming when in Thailand, Mango sticky rice !!! This country is really famous with its worldwide mango sticky rice. Mango Tango is the famous one which served all menu about mango. They come not only to mango sticky rice, but there are also mango pudding, mango juice, mango soup and etc.
To be honest that was the best desert made of mango that I’ve ever tried !! As a big fans of mango, this is like my heaven place. I found out the type of Thailand mango is different with Indonesia mango. Thai Mango comes with yellow skin and the texture is also more juicy comparing to Indonesian mango.

Do you like Thai Foods as much as I do ? let’s share your favorite foods in the comment below J
